“I see reviews from several years ago about the bad plastic backed knobs, has Samsung corrected this yet or are they still cheap plastic. I like the stove but don't want to replace a problem with another problem.”

No. Samsung has not redesigned the knobs. I have to buy my second PLASTIC knob at a price of $65. Stay away from Samsung.
