I just purchased this TV this week and sometimes channels turn off and on (very quickly maybe for a second or 2). Has anyone experienced this? Is it a potential defect? null

I have not seen that happen on my tv, the only flashing it does is with the cable box switching from one channel that is 720p to another that is 1080p

Yes, within the first five minutes of turning the TV on, and other times after 30 minutes.
It happened every time I turned the TV on.
My TV was replaced and I have not had the problem since.
