Does this upscale automatically? null

All 4K TVs will upscale by using software. No different than taking a 480p image on a 1080p screen. The difference is that the software gets better the higher end you go. I have a Xbox one x and PS4. Watching YouTube at 1080p with the PS4 is okay as this TV isn’t going to get cutting edge upscaling software but on my X even if it’s a 1080p video thanks to the X’s hardware it makes a World of difference Basically out of the box it’s fine but don’t expect to be amazed at how it take a 720p cable singal to 2160p

I'm not certain if it upscales, but the 1080p video that I watch on it looks very nice.
