“tv is showing shadowy images. Cant really see the people clear. Now its just a black screen. Works the same when I play a dvd.”

It could be a bad HDMI cable or a bad HDMI input on the tv. Try viewing with just an antennae/over air-assuming you are using cable or satellite. Try alternate connection method. Review all your settings.
