4K stands for 4000 pixels of horizontal resolution. QLED is still LED backlit technology but adds a quantum dot sandwich to the LCD overlay producing a much more vibrant picture. One of the keys to having a better picture is the way that QLED TVs produce the color black. QLED TVs have more than 2 million pixels and are able to produce an almost absolute black giving you much better contrast and colors that have reportedly been better than OLED TVs (A whole other discussion) QLED TVs also have quantum processors to help with fast motion tracking. Yes you can use a Cable Box with a Smart TV. Smart TVs simply allow you to access streaming services (Netflix, VUDU, Hulu, Disney channel, etc) without using something like a ROKU or Apple TV. Of course in order to stream you must have WiFi.
