• Yes, you can turn it off. But you probably won't have to, because this feature breaks after 3 or 4 washes. Many people are having the same problem, and Samsung seems unable to fix it.

• Yes there is an override function that will drain the water before it even starts. Shouldn't be a problem for you if that were to happen. Hope this helps.
