• Hi Jodee, there should be a 1 inch gap in the back of stove. It is recommended to get the optional rear filler kit for the negative space. ^Rosi

• It does come with a fill kit for the back, about 1.5 inch thick, made of enameled black metal. It is needed because the connections at the back extend a bit further than the edge of the top.

• Yes you do need some sort of counter top behind this unit. We have tile on the wall and a quarts counter. We will need to go back and get a strip of the counter for behind the stove.
