• You can keep your phone unless it says 300.00 off with a qualifying trade in the you wouldn't get the discount if you didn't trade yours in. I bought mine at best buy it was 250.00 off with no trade.

• I did not have to trade my phone in. There was no real advantage for me as I had a Note 4. Keeping old phone.
