“I would like to know what is the difference between purchasing the unlocked phones activated(which is cheaper) and purchasing the unlocked activate later($200USD More)? Why is this so? Also, can I use this UNLOCKED phone in the Caribbean like Trinidad.”

An unlocked phone, which you can activate later, seems to cost more since you are paying the full retail price of the phone upfront. A phone that is immediately activated to a carrier, like Verizon or AT&T, seems to cost less because you are setting up a contract with the carrier that says you will pay the amount the phone costs over time. You'll be paying the same price for the phone in the end.
