Is this phone usable in Europe? null

yes, just change the to a world plan with Verizon for data and talk, then change back when you return.

I am traveling from the U.S. to Italy soon and was told by the Verizon representative that the phone is useable in Europe providing you have activated the international travel plan. Make sure you do that prior to leaving for Europe.
