It is $299 with a contract. That means you sign a 2 year contract with Verizon and they pay it down to $299. The phone is much higher in price without a contract. So your contract pays for most of the phone price. It has been this way for many years. So it is new. Or you can pay full price and not have a 2 year contract. Either way you end up paying for it.
