• Works automatically to back up using Apple Time Machine. First back up takes several minutes. Successive versions back up quickly.

• It is simply an external drive like any other. Software makes backups happen on schedule. One Mac tip: Time Machine on a recent macOS will reformat the drive for exclusive use by Time Machine. No manual copies unless you format it as 2 volumes first.
