“Is this compatible running at top speed on a thunderbolt 4 port? Also can you run smart devices on this in case they are hacked? I dont want to put them on the same network as my other devices and the guest network is not secure enough to use.”

Visibility on a network is configured by the computer it is plugged in to. Backup software is available that can encrypt the drive completely making it unreadable to anyone else.
