• Mine never says charging. It shows the battery button filling or with a lightning bolt, but it never says charging.

• Yes, it should say "charging". Try turning the player off before plugging it into the computer. Our's never indicates when the charge is complete, but we found that it is fully charged after about 2 hours. Also, our's freezes up if we use a wall charger.
