With Audible, you need the Audible software to play the audible files. That is unless you get the Audible conversation converting software. In that, there may be a suitable player codex; however, I believe the application is still required and there isn't much of an OS on these things.

I had the exact same problems with the manufacturer's software not working properly. I ended up returning mine.
