Yes. I have used it with a MacBook Air with USB 2 ports.

Simple answer is Yes! USB 2 and 3 are compatible. However Only USB.3 flash drive with a USB.3 receiver will you get the additional transfer speed. And its fast.

Yes it is backwards compatible. All my usb are 3.0 and it also works on my sisters laptop witch is only 2.0 usb. and works great. it transfers faster on my laptop.
