• You just use the suction cup. The mounting pad is for irregular surfaces the suction cup won’t stay adhered to, like the dashboard.

• You can just use the suction cup on the window to make a strong seal as the glass is not porous/irregular shape. The mounting pad is to be used on irregular surfaces like the dashboard as most are not smooth enough to allow the suction cup to seal properly.
