I'm not sure about the Garmin but it will hold any phone very well. I have a note 9 and a Iphone11 and it works for both very easy to use

Both of my GPS says they're probably older I think than what you're talkin about. My phone is a note 9 in my work vehicle and it does support it so if it's a big one it should be able to fit it. Best buy told me when I bought it that I could return it if it didn't work out so I would take a chance because it's definitely worth the price for what you're paying for I've paid way more for ones that fell apart in no time at all.

Not sure about the Garmin, but will hold the iPhone XS Max so if the Samsung Galaxy S9 is of similar width then yes.
