It will hold an lg g8 with plenty of room to spare. It should hold the s9.

My phone is a note 9 in my work vehicle and it does support it so if it's a big one it should be able to fit it. Best buy told me when I bought it that I could return it if it didn't work out so I would take a chance because it's definitely worth the price for what you're paying for I've paid way more for ones that fell apart in no time at all.
