You can use it an as many as you want. It will not overwrite anything without prompting you.

You should be able to use this on all drives. All operating systems. File types are universal so using between different OS is no problem. You do need a viewer to open files, so your operating system should tell you if you do or not when you plug it in.

I transfer videos and photos from several different drives on my desktop computer and also things from my surface 3 onto this drive. I have never had a problem with losing information when combining info from different devices. Just make sure that the files are named differently and you should have no problems.

As long as all devices use same base OS should be fine. Windows and Windows ok, Windows & Mac not so sure, the Seagate software seemed to support drive portioning, but I have not tried mixing formats 1 2 TB partition using Windows, 1 2 TB portion using Mac. For Windows to Windows treat just like a thumb drive (or Mac to Mac)
