HI. I DO need an external hard drive to store tons of photos, videos and audio on. My confusion is: If this will be my back up drive, why do I need my back up to "back up"? Doesn't that defeat the purpose of having enough memory for storage? Thanks! null

If I understand you correctly, you have a computer with two hard drives on it (one used as a back up) and want to know if you need an external.

Either way, my answer is that can't have enough back ups; internal or external. Myself, I have four internal drives in my PC, plus three or four external. The external I update with files and move them out of the house to another location. Should the house burn down I still a majority of my files safe. If I had to bug out of the house for an emergency and could not take my PC, I could always remove the internal drives and save them. It's always up to the individual to decide how valuable their files and information are to them and how much they want to protect it. There is no right or wrong.

Same thing I ran into, Seagate sold as a backup solution, I needed it as primary storage of iTunes movies. you can use it either way

If your back-up is stored on disks or an extra drive in your desktop that means you really don't have the portability you really want or even need. 
With this pocket-able portable, you only have to plug it into ANY USB equipped desktop or Laptop to retrieve whatever you need.
