“I was thinking about giving an external hard drive to backup my daughters phone. to back up the phone does it need to be backed up to the computer first before going into this external hard drive? If so, is this compatible with vista?”

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes you can use the Seagate external hard drive to copy files from your phone. I have an iPhone and I copy all my pictures to my external drive. I also copy additional computer files to it on a monthly basis. I don't use backup as I have had experience where the restore failed, so I just copy and paste the files that I know are important to me. When I say the restore failed it was not about the Seagate drive - it was when I worked. Hope this helps.
