• Yes. I have mine connect to a router that's not connect to the Internet. I keep my movies and music libraries there for backup. Also, the kids can stream from it when they want.

• no you need to hardwire the drive to the computer to put files on it

• Yes, but your NAS has to be connected to the hard drive. You can either transfer the file from your computer with a wireless connection or use a USB 2 or USB 3 directly to the drive.
