I love bass! Alone it does a good job-- I feel the same way--in order to get it BETTER- I tried several value subs, and {they} made things worse. However, when I put a high end sub -- Velodyne and MartinLogan it worked AWESOME. The bass from the soundbar is quite good, but if you need very deep and low frequencies, shake the room, its a matter of physics, so you will need to get a high end sub, to really push that much deep energy....

I have had the soundbar for almost a year. I do NOT believe a sub is needed. 
If you are using it to play music only then maybe a subwoofer could add more punch but for watching movies, it is not required. 
Bass is tight and crisp.

It can hold its own but definitely better with a sub.
