“I am having trouble connecting my RS 175 headphones to my new smart TV using the optical input. The TV optical output is connected to the base unit and have gone through the connection set up without success. Any recommendations is appreciated.”

Check to make sure tv volume is on. Not sound bar or other sound speakers Don
