Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to assist you. You should not use the Sharp SMC1169KS microwave without the glass turntable dish and carousel roller, as doing so will cause uneven cooking, cold spots, or potentially damage the appliance; however, no, you do not have to press the unlock button every time you open the door because that button is strictly for the optional, manually activated child safety lock. The microwave relies entirely on the continuous rotation of the food to distribute the heat evenly; running it with a stationary, rectangular dish directly on the oven floor will result in severely overcooked edges and a raw center. Regarding the door, it features a physical push-release button for normal, immediate opening. The "Unlock" button on the keypad is only utilized if you choose to turn on the Child Lock feature (by holding the Stop/Clear button for 3 seconds) to prevent children from starting the machine. Feel free to contact us at 1-800-237-4277 or through email if you have any other questions or concerns regarding this unit. We are open Monday through Friday from 9AM to 7PM CST and on the weekends 10AM to 3PM CST.
