You will want to connect thru wifi to have the best features for this set. Reasons are programming specific to the APPs as well as updates to many new free networks. You do not have to register it. You may be able to send info from your computer via USB but no guarantee the set would recognize this. I just did the research regarding this, and Sharp says without the internet, you can still utilize the set as a regular HDTV but without roku services, smart tv services. Cable or over the air broadcasts would still work without any issue.

Please try again later.what i got is that you have to have wifi and activate roku at a charge to see the movies that roku offers, but you can see regular tv such as satellite and all without internet connection. that being said i wouldn't buy it if i could do it again for the simple fact that you cannot connect to wifi without going through roku.
