“Is this a cd player that hooks up to a stereo receiver or just a free standing cd player?”

• The Sharp 50W is a stand alone CD player with a radio. No receiver is required nor can one be used. On the back, the only other outputs besides the speaker wires, is a "Pre Out Subwoofer" banana jack. The front does have a headphone jack port as the only other 'output'.
