The official 18.1-inch depth of the Sharp SMC1452KH Countertop Microwave includes the protruding pull handle, while the main metal chassis alone measures approximately 16.1 inches deep. Because the manufacturer requires a minimum of 2 inches of ventilation clearance at the back to prevent overheating, the total operational depth needed is 20.1 inches; therefore, this unit will not fit safely or correctly on an 18-inch deep shelf, as the body would have to be pushed completely flush against the wall, entirely blocking the necessary airflow.
