I have used for about a year while swimming laps and have not any issues. I did use some keepers on my snorkeling mask as I use a lap pool that can push a lot of water, depending on my velocity settings. I'd highly recommend. I'm going to try on my next scuba diving trip.

These specifically are not made for swimming but they do make some that are specifically for use while swimming.

Look for the Shokz that are specifically for swimming. Rain and sweat are the limits for open run pro model

I wouldn't.  If said right in the manual that they d are water resistant, not water proof
