Granted my car was between us, but unless you always plan on being in direct line of sight, I would plan on keeping your source close to your buds.

With my phone in my bedroom, I can wander around anywhere in the apartment without an issue. They cut out as soon as I go outside. In my case, it is about 25 feet plus an interior and an exterior wall before they lose signal.
