Do the wires hang or are they retractable? null

Look at a youtube video to help you see the design itself. The edge of the neckband that on one side has vol + power and the battery and charge port on the other. there is a groove and you can slip the headphone cords back into the neck across the length with your thumb as you slide it manually across the curved shape.

The wire can hang but they can be secured to keep them short..the charge port is located on the button side covers by a rubber (mini USB port aka android charger)

The wires fit mostly into the neckband itself yet when you are not using them, there is about an inch and half hanging out of the band. However, if they are in use they will hang down if they are not in your ears.
