Like any hotspot, you wouldn't have to be in the same room, but the further you got from the device, the weaker the signal and the slower the speed. Plus, any walls will also cause a quick decline in service. Also, it connects to a local carrier, so your position in a house would affect service as well (e.g., on the roof, probably good service; in the basement, probably bad service. However, it is battery operated and small, so you could carry it around with you. You could use Ring cameras, but the more cameras you have, the more bandwidth you use, slowing down and eating up your allotted service. Also, how do you use your cameras? Do you have continuous use, or only intermittent. These are all variables in service and distance.

We wouldn't recommend leaving the device on all the time. The Solis device is not really meant for that purpose. It is a temporary wifi solution not mean to replace home internet services.
