Hi, The wireless transmitter and receiver kit (BBY SKU# 6401974) is only needed if you do not want, or cannot run the subwoofer cable from your receiver to the subwoofer location. It's not required to operate the subwoofer. If you are going to purchase the wireless transmitter and receiver kit, make sure you are buying BBY SKU# 640197. We offer two versions of our Sonance wireless kits. You will need the kit with both the transmitter and receiver since the subwoofer does not have a built-in wireless receiver.
