Hi, Thanks for your question! The Sonance MAG6R requires approximately 4-3/4" of mounting depth. Because of that, it typically will not fit in a standard 2x4 wall without modification. These speakers are specifically designed for in-ceiling installation, so even aside from depth, they are engineered to perform best when mounted in a ceiling rather than a wall.
