• It should be fine. There's plenty of space in the mounting brackets.

• They have clamps that they say work with ceiling thicknesses up to 1.25 or 1.5 inches (I think the former), so you should be ok, but there wouldn't be a lot of room for error. FYI. Part of my ceiling had 1/2" drywall below 2x6 joists. The speakers fit, but just barely, even with r-19 insulation up there
