Yes, the sound card/wireless card failure issue happened to me when my Sonos was outside of warranty window. I contacted Sonos, submitted the diagnosis per their instruction, and they sent a brand new speaker to replace the defect one for free.

The problem is actually with the WiFi card, and yes Sonos will replace the unit even if it's out of warranty. 
I just got off the phone with them and I purchased my unit in June of 2017, and they are replacing it for free.
