“I have turned the sub woofer volume all the way up and placed it close to the sound bar. However i am getting very weak base out of it. I've tried it in movie mode and music mode. I've tried playing music and movies with deep base with very little outcome”

Make sure you do not have the “under the sofa” setting on. I had a similar issue and the “sofa” mode absolutely kills the bass response, really a worthless setting as I use it under furniture and would get very little response using that setting. Turned it off and Boom, lots of bass.
