A:AnswerYes! You can either use the Digital Audio Out port (you may need to purchase a D/A converter, if your receiver doesn't have a Digital Audio Input, you can get one for about $12 to $40. Google "Audio Digital to Analog Converter". If Best Buy doesn't have one you can choose from a few at the big A. The set also has a dedicated mini-HDMI port that supports audio only, meant to be use with soundbars. It is much less likely that your receiver would have an Audio HDMI input so the converter would probably be your best bet.
A:AnswerUse the mini-HDMI connector to connect the soundbar. Since it sounds like the hearing aid device might be important, you might consider getting a new soundbar that has a HDMI-Audio input if your current soundbar doesn't have one. Actually, that's a more elegant solution, anyway.
A:AnswerSounds like a ground loop to me. You may need to strap a wire from some metal surface on the set to the amplifier that is producing the hum. A:AnswerAfter unpacking mine, I really think that is an urban myth, or reports from people receiving a "previously opened" box. Unless the outside box is badly damaged, it is impossible for anything to come in contact with the screen while the box is unopened. Sony did a really good job in designing the box. It is ingenious, really. The way the Styrofoam supports the screen and supports the distance between the front of the screen, you would have to, literally, drop the box, face down on a vertically protruding edge, from a considerable distance, to get anything to make contact with the screen. Ask somebody at the store to show you how it comes packed from the factory and you will understand what I am verbally trying to explain

A:AnswerNot being there to see how you have the set connected and how you have the controls on the setup page set, I can only conclude that you are doing something incorrectly. My TV doesn't do that, except when it is a "feature" of the video I am looking at (like from a Blu Ray disk) where the original Cinemascope aspect ratio is maintained for display on a 16 by 9 fomat monitor. Another possibility is that you are not viewing 1080i/p or 720p content. Then, those bars are there to maintain the correct aspect ratio of the old NTSC scanning system. IOf you other TVs aren't doing it, you are looking at a very distorted picture, or a picture that has information clipped of the top and bottom in order to fill the screen. There is no other way to fit a square picture into a rectangular screen without one or the other.
