Yes. Displays take a lot of energy so the battery is not intended to power the display.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.yes - it is normal. the battery holds the settings, but not necessarily keeps the display up while power is off.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I had something similar occur, however, what I found out was when the power goes out, the battery might not be strong enough to light up the display. I changed the battery pulled the plug and the time remained lit, therefore, I realized I needed to change the batteries each Spring to prevent any issues from occurring during storms and power outages. I do also have a Smart Phone which is never powered off, therefore my daily alarm is always activated on it, regardless of weather as my battery is always charged. Hope that helps you out. :-)

Please try again later.Hi Jane123, Yes, It is normal that the display will disappear during power interruption but the backup battery will keep the clock and the alarm operating. For more information that you may need to take note on the alarm in the event of a power interruption, please check this link: https://docs.sony.com/release//ICFC1T_EN_FR.pdf -Jerome
