A lot of the reviews say there is a microphone input jack but none of the pictures show it. Is there in fact a standard microphone jack? null

There is a hot shoe on top of the camcorder and an external microphone jack in the front, both are covered with a door that flips open.

Yes there is one on the side of the camera towards the front.

Yes, there is a standard microphone mini jack and you can control the input level manually or leave it on auto. I have found it works best if I control the level manually.
