A:AnswerIn my opinion this camera will work for a beginner because it can be set to use as a point & shoot. The youngest age is based on the child's emotional & mental maturity/dexterity. If the child does anything with a cell phone or a computer even it's to just play young children's games, etc. they should be ready.
The plus side is, this camera will be easy for the child to progress at their own rate for a very long time (Years). The only two recommendations I would make are:
1. Always make sure the child has the wrist strap securely on their wrist in case they accidentally let go of the camera.
2. A flip open sun shield for the view screen will significantly cut down on the sun glare as well as bright daylight glare, Makes taking pictures a dream. Get the correct size for the 3.7 inch view screen.
