I have a son and he says that some ear buds have microphones in them and it will work on a Xbox one controller. Are these those type of earbuds null

Yes these earphones have a microphone. I don't know anything about using them with an Xbox though. But if your son says you can - I would take him at his word. I get some static and blowback when I use them with my smartphone.
