“I have had this system for a year and 8 months now and am thinking about using a digital optical cable instead of hdmi ARC. Is the sound quality comparable for them or is one better sound wise? I don't use the pass-through feature for any devices.”

Hi Josh, Thank you for your inquiry with the HTZ9F. HDMI is better that Optical although they both pass digital audio from one device to another. The biggest difference is that HDMI can pass higher-resolution audio, including the formats found on Bluray: Dolby True HD and DTS Master Audio. These formats can't transmitted across optical. Also in terms of simplicity, HDMI also passes video signal. I hope this helps. Regards, Kris
