If you have the sound bar hooked up with an HDMI, the TV remote can control the sound bar, but if you have it hooked up with an optical audio line you have to use the sound bar remote for the sound. It doesn't control the tv tho

However, you can control the soundbar and TV using only the remote control of your Sony TV. Please note that you still need to use the soundbar remote control when accessing the settings of the soundbar. I hope this helps!
