“The info online for KB100 says to charge using a charger with an output of .5 amps. The oldest Apple iPhone charging cube I have outputs 1 amp (twice the recommended). Higher amps okay?”

A charger with the correct output voltage like the Apple iPhone 1 amp charger will be fine. The 0.5 amp specification is the minimum output current requirement to charge the speaker.
