“Just bought the reciever I have the 1995 accoustimass 3 brand new out of the package from Bose unopened from storage. the bass isn't too good but very clean and a lot of treble. Do I hook the bass wires in the bottom prongs or top prongs of receiver?”

Think you have this hooked up wrong. Open up the manual for the speaker. You need to connect the bass module to the receiver. You then connect the two speakers to the bass module.
