I have an LG TV purchased in 2021, so I do not know if this is relevant. When I turn my TV on, the receiver automatically picks up that there is input and automatically turns on or off accordingly. It however does not adjust the volume for the receiver through the TV's remote. I do not know if this is different for a Sony receiver talking to a Sony TV.

Yes, if it's connected via HDMI ARC port on both TV and AV receiver.

I was in the same situation with my Sony Bravia TV, quick answer is yes you can use the tv remote to control the volume on the receiver. You need to wire the ARC HDMI from the TV to the ARC out of the receiver and you are good to go. One small annoyance is the TV volume and receiver volume level readout will not match as they use different scales.
