At www.hifi-classic.net they posted lab tests showing the Bose 10.2 impedance to be 3.5 minimum to 15 ohms maximum. The Sony receiver is rated at a minimum of 6 ohms. At very loud volume levels you could cause the Sony to draw more power than it can handle.

Yes, the receiver might trigger the protection mode when the nominal impedance of the connected speakers didn't fall within the impedance range indicated on the rear panel of the receiver which is 6-16 ohms.
