It's not a universal remote so unless you have a Sony TV, you are correct in needing to use Your TV remote. Even for the HDMI1 and 2. It really not an issue though having two remotes. On my TV remote I use the Source button, at the top right. Then I use the the arrow buttons for the HDMI1 or 2. I use the Sony remote for the DVD blue ray player.
