Maybe you accidentally locked it, from child lock. Instructions say, you can lock this tray to avoid accidental opening of the tray. While the player is turned on, press stop, home, then top menu button on the remote to lock or unlock the tray. And I hope it’s not the batteries that are dead.

Buy the warranty, it covers everything you need. Very inexpensive.
